Although natural remedies can treat different ailments, sometimes we must turn to conventional medicine for answers. Take kidney disease patients for example – they can be stuck on transplantation lists for years, and must be put on dialysis while they wait.

GOODBYE TO THE DIALYSIS MACHINE – SCIENTISTS HAVE DEVELOPED A BIONIC KIDNEY!

This is a time consuming, painful and expensive process which significantly affects the quality of life of the patient. Luckily, it may change soon.

A team of scientists from the University of California has managed to create a prototype bionic kidney which works just as well as normal kidneys and won’t be rejected by the body!

The project was funded by the Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering and started in 2015. The kidney is a replica of human kidneys and performs the same functions.

It consists of microchips moved by the heart, and offers hope to millions of kidney disease patients around the world. According to Willian Vanderbilt and Shuvo Roy who participated in the project, the body won’t reject the device as it is made from renal cells.

The first prototype has the size of a coffee cup and can easily regulate the balance of fluids and blood pressure. Scientists have great hope for the bionic kidney, and expect it to be available to the public in only 2 years, although there’s no word on the pricing yet.
