Ginger is definitely among the healthiest natural foods you can eat and offers a variety of health benefits. Ginger can reinforce your immune system, eliminate toxins from your body, boost your digestion and promote weight loss as well. Although generally safe to consume, there are situations when eating ginger is not recommended. Here’s when to avoid the root:

Certain drugs

If you’re taking blood pressure or diabetes meds, you shouldn’t consume ginger.  Ginger is a powerful blood thinner which can reduce your blood pressure and also affects the production of insulin in the pancreas and interferes with diabetes drugs.

Blood disorders

Ginger boosts our blood flow and can easily treat peripheral artery disease and Raynaud’s disease. However, it should be avoided in cases of hemophilia as it might interfere with drugs prescribed to treat the condition.

Being underweight

Ginger improves digestion and promotes weight loss, so it’s not exactly ideal if you want to gain weight. Ginger contains a lot of fiber which boosts the production of digestive enzymes and promotes better fat burn. However, underweight people may experience appetite and further weight loss after consuming ginger.

Pregnancy

Although there’s need for more research on the matter, ginger is not recommended during pregnancy as it may induce premature labor. Some women claim that it’s great against morning sickness, but we suggest avoiding it altogether.

If you’ve recognized yourself in one of the four aforementioned groups of people, you should stay away from ginger and replace it in your diet with paprika or cayenne pepper.
